Sorbetero

After our buffet breakfast (it’s part of the accommodation package), manong sorbetero came with his ringing bell asking us to get up from our tables and buy dirty ice cream.

This is no ordinary dirty ice cream.

This is made from gabi or taro. A taro is a root crop and a native vegetable in some parts of Southeast Asia, including Philippines. It is usually used as an ingredient of viands.

*sorbetero = sorbetes (dirty ice cream) + person (seller)

Sorbetes = It is not dirty as some may have presumed. It is called by its name because it is being sold as a street food. It has a very different taste from the ice cream we can buy from grocery stores. The common flavors are chocolate, mango, cheese, and if you’re lucky, there are also ube and vanilla.

But for me, it was another first time. =)

Old Houses Were Brought Here

My family spent 3 holy days in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar to reminisce Jose Rizal days and learn pre-Hispanic Filipino culture. Really different from how a Holy Week is usually celebrated? Yeah. That’s the reason my holy week is very memorable.

In Las Casas, every house was bought from the homeowners then put them into a one huge “village” (well, it’s a resort but I prefer calling it a village). What you see in the center is the Casa Binondo II that can be rented for P100,000+ a night! It is the most expensive house in the village and I’ll tell you why next time. =P

Cutesy Amidst the Nosiness of Taft

I and my friend was at a coffee shop in front of De La Salle University. Named as Noriter: Coffee and Dream, this place is a perfect venue for gals and guys with upbeat and fun hearts.

It’s wooden wall is designed with lots of writings which were mostly drawn by their guests. You bet, most of them are confession of love. Hihihi!

It has second floor where friends and lovers can cuddle around while the breeze of coffee runs through the curtains full of purple and green hearts. (but wait, too much of cuddling will bring you humiliation as this place is armed with cctv camera haha coz a lot of ‘kids/teenagers’ were doing it too much).

Tables for coffee talk are full of pictures while the chairs are randomly colored with strong plain colors. Lots of drawings are on the wall including a world map on a blackboard. Cups that we use for hot coffee are pulled together to make a wall art and a giant robot.

While the sandwiches, cakes and frappe are not more than the usual, it pays to visit and let the blow of creative air flow into one’s unconscious creative side. =*

It’s MORE FUN in the Philippines

check here what we offer

Department of Tourism has released the new slogan for Tourism as my country imparts its beauty to the rest of the world. As part of its campaign towards millions of tourists by the end of my President’s term on 2016, Pinoys are now in rave in moving each beauty of Philippines in front of the other nations. We, as the citizen of the country, are the very medium of this campaign. We are already trending topic in Twitter. Every Pinoy has also released their own ads to promote what they have already visited and are proud about the Philippines. Check them here. And it looks like every Pinoy has turned his head to this challenge. Haha.!

It is more fun because we have a lot to offer perfectly sprinkled on each of our 7,107 islands! =)

Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2010

Merry Christmas!!!

Well, it’s still 7 hours from now and no one is preparing for the noche buena yet(atleast at my place). But hey, for most of us, Christmas spirit comes as early as September. And as November approaches, our asses can’t get still on one seating when everyone is talking about gifts, parties and bonuses!

As this 7 hours is depleting, I just found myself having an alone time in front of the computer and suddenly realized I might as well share the meaning of Christmas for me.

I attended the last livewire service of Meralco Christian Fellowship this year. We were asked what can we share in the group about Christmas. I shared mine in a very nervous voice. But here is the exact words I should have said if I was not shivering that time. Haha.

As Christmas makes everyone spend thousands of bucks for gifts and parties, which is obviously the reason why most people are happy this time of season, may we also realize the other reason. Christmas is just like a birthday celebration in a family, much like in a big one. When my grandfather celebrated his 81th birthday, every family in the clan were present. It was like a big feast and everyone was really having a blast. It was celebrating the moment of reunion. We played a lot of games and sang every song and ate every food. It was really a good feeling seeing everyone is enjoying. Christmas is same as that. The only difference is, Christmas is a much bigger celebration of the whole world for the birthday of Jesus.

It’s as simple as that.
