Sorbetero

After our buffet breakfast (it’s part of the accommodation package), manong sorbetero came with his ringing bell asking us to get up from our tables and buy dirty ice cream.

This is no ordinary dirty ice cream.

This is made from gabi or taro. A taro is a root crop and a native vegetable in some parts of Southeast Asia, including Philippines. It is usually used as an ingredient of viands.

*sorbetero = sorbetes (dirty ice cream) + person (seller)

Sorbetes = It is not dirty as some may have presumed. It is called by its name because it is being sold as a street food. It has a very different taste from the ice cream we can buy from grocery stores. The common flavors are chocolate, mango, cheese, and if you’re lucky, there are also ube and vanilla.

But for me, it was another first time. =)

Old Houses Were Brought Here

My family spent 3 holy days in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar to reminisce Jose Rizal days and learn pre-Hispanic Filipino culture. Really different from how a Holy Week is usually celebrated? Yeah. That’s the reason my holy week is very memorable.

In Las Casas, every house was bought from the homeowners then put them into a one huge “village” (well, it’s a resort but I prefer calling it a village). What you see in the center is the Casa Binondo II that can be rented for P100,000+ a night! It is the most expensive house in the village and I’ll tell you why next time. =P

Pin That Map

December 31, 2010 of Taipei Backpackers

The world map is huge…

and yet, when you zoom in the countries, you would know there are really lots of them, even just those tiny little islands.

and then when you zoom it more, there are those cities…some are defined by how well its structures are built and some are defined by how big is its geography

and then when you dig a little more zooming, you will see a person browsing his tumblr in the computer.

You will realize that the world is really big…..and you look like just a dust.

What you see in the photo are the letters of guests who stayed in the Taipei’s Backpackers. Although there are a number of notes written in guests’ native languages, much of them are letters of gratitude and requests for visits from hosts to their countries.

Aside from maximizing every available space and wall for maps and guides, toiletries and picka foods, backpackers’ houses are more personal when it comes to relating with their guests. Every guest can watch TV together, eat on the same table and share the same bedroom. Plus, the hosts are more intimate when it comes to conversation as they don’t speak like they are your servants but instead as friends who welcomed you at their home.

It’s MORE FUN in the Philippines

check here what we offer

Department of Tourism has released the new slogan for Tourism as my country imparts its beauty to the rest of the world. As part of its campaign towards millions of tourists by the end of my President’s term on 2016, Pinoys are now in rave in moving each beauty of Philippines in front of the other nations. We, as the citizen of the country, are the very medium of this campaign. We are already trending topic in Twitter. Every Pinoy has also released their own ads to promote what they have already visited and are proud about the Philippines. Check them here. And it looks like every Pinoy has turned his head to this challenge. Haha.!

It is more fun because we have a lot to offer perfectly sprinkled on each of our 7,107 islands! =)
